Very much looking forward to learning about all these often misquoted and mis-contextualized words--and more about your lovely home (ship?). That desk, though! Amazing!

Haha I should do a post just on misattributed quotes. It's unsettling, but it kind of turns you into a quote detective. Which is fun. I do feel blessed to have a dream desk!

You totally should! The "Plato" one about libraries surprised me as well. You could probably find enough content for one post about quotes misattributed to him specifically 🤣

I love that cast iron dutch oven! That's incredible.

We live in a yellow and brick split level too. And yes, we primarily occupy the top floor. :) As it was a bit newer (90s not 70s), we put in hardwood in the living room and hallway. We kinda had to as the carpet was stained and smelly from previous owner's dog. It's been worth the investment. We also knocked down the wall between the tiny living room and the kitchen/dining combo so it feels bigger. I still don't love the front of our house, but I'm trying to make it homey enough on the inside that it feels beautiful to me.

I totally understand making beautiful what you can. Painting the outside of our home would be horrifically expensive. I'll take the yellow brick (why?) and plant some green for complementary contrast! We also invested in sanding and restaining our hardwood on the top floor before moving in. I agree...totally worth the investment. Knocking down that wall probably made the space feel so much bigger!! I'm jealous. But I love my bookcases I've placed along that wall.

Bookcases ARE absolutely a necessity and when wall-space is at a premium . . . well, you've got to make some hard choices. I get it! I want my brother-in-law install some narrow built-ins around the front window-once our littlest one is out of the climbing phase. Books bring life and joy to a place as much as to the people who live there, I think.

Yes! Green does help revive the faded yellow on our siding (and our brick). I need to spend some time envisioning (and budgeting) what our front yard could be. Thanks for the idea!

This was such a fun read! I loved the part about “the world is thy ship and not thy home” (one of my favorite quotes!)

I would love to see a tour of your living spaces. That dresser is on point!

I had such fun writing this piece! Probably the most fun so far. It is a very good piece of saintly wisdom. Kind of ironic that St. Therese was actually misquoting a poem...so really she made her own quote! I will keep your feedback in mind for future posts. Just have to take photos when each space is clean (but never at the same time with two toddlers! Haha).
